Creation of the didactic laboratory for chemical wastewater treatment with special emphasis on advanced oxidation processes (AOPs)
Project title: Creation of the didactic laboratory for chemical wastewater treatment with special emphasis on advanced oxidation processes (AOPs)
Project leader: dr inż. Katarzyna Umiejewska, prof. uczelni
Lead entity implementing the project at the WUT: Faculty of Building Installations, Hydro and Environmental Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology
Call, programme or project name: „Inicjatywa doskonałości – uczelnia badawcza”, IDUB
The aim of the project is to create a laboratory for chemical wastewater treatment, including the processes of coagulation (preliminary wastewater treatment ), Fenton’s reaction, UV, O3, H2O2, and their hybrids, as well as sorption . The laboratory will allow students to become familiar with new trends in wastewater treatment, using modern teaching methods based on teamwork and solving problems identified in Polish wastewater treatment plants. In addition, it will be a place where research with a scientific element will be carried out and will allow to obtain results that will provide a basis for the preparation of publications and conference presentations. The research conducted by the students will be carried out in consultation and cooperation with design and construction companies. Symbiona and Nijhuis Industries, both national players in the design and implementation of wastewater treatment solutions, have declared their willingness to participate in the project. In this laboratory student groups, after a preliminary literature review, will independently propose systems to be tested. On the basis of the obtained results, the design and concept of the treatment plant will be developed. In the Master’s course, laboratory activities will be carried out to plan and conduct research, on the basis of which students will prepare a scientific article and a conference speech/poster.
