XX Technical Dam Control International Conference
On September 12-15, 2023, the XX Technical Dam Control International Conference took place in Chorzów. The Division of Hydro-engineering and Hydraulics of the Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering, the Warsaw University of Technology organized the Conference. The Silesian Waterworks Company, Dam Monitoring Center – National Service for Safety of Hydraulic Structures – Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute, the Institute for Applied Research, Warsaw University of Technology Ltd., Polish Committee on Large Dams and the Hydrotechnical Structures Division of the Committee on Civil Engineering and Hydroengineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences were the Conference co-organizers. The event was held under the title “Safety of Hydraulic Structures”. The Conference was held in a hybrid formula for the next time. Two hundred and four participants from 20 countries participated in the Conference, including a hundred forty-seven in-person participants.
This year, due to the 140th anniversary of the operation of the Silesian Waterworks Company, a special session was dedicated to an activity of the company. The technical trip was to the Goczałkowice Rezervour, administrated by the Silesian Waterworks Company.
Other technical sessions were dedicated to surveying, operating, and maintaining hydraulic structures. The presented papers were related to water management, rehabilitation and modernization of hydraulic structures, new technologies in water engineering, modern measurement and monitoring techniques, and technical solutions for new, designed and constructed hydraulic structures.
Papers submitted to the Conference are going to be published in the following journals: Archives of Civil Engineering (issues from 2024), Journal of Water and Land Development (issues from 2023 and 2024 roku), Water, Gospodarka Wodna (issues 9/2023 and 11/2023), Energetyka Wodna (issue 3/2023) and a special monograph published by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management.
