The researchers of the Division of Hydro-Engineering and Hydraulics visited geotechnical events in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan

Paweł Popielski, DSc PhD Eng, Agnieszka Dąbska, DSc PhD Eng, Łukasz Kaczmarek, PhD Eng and Bartosz Bednarz, MSc Eng (Division of Hydro-Engineering and Hydraulics, Faculty of Building Services, Hydro and Environmental Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology) took part in the 17th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (17ARC). The 17ARC (https://17arc.org) was organised by L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University (https://enu.kz/en/) on August 14-18, 2023, in Astana in Kazakhstan.

On August 17, 2023, the Kazakhstan-Poland-Korean Workshop took place as one of the technical sessions during the conference. An Agreement of Cooperation between the Korean Geotechnical Society (https://www.kgshome.org/eng_main) and Polish Committee on Geotechnics (https://www.geotechnika.org.pl) and Kazakhstan Geotechnical Society (https://www.issmge.org/member-societies/asia/kazakhstan-geotechnical-societywas signed during the workshop. An Agreement of Cooperation between the Korean Geotechnical Society and Polish Committee on Geotechnics was also signed.

Poland was represented by six delegates, four from the Warsaw University of Technology and two from the Bialystok University of Technology (https://pb.edu.pl/en/), Patryk Dobrzycki, PhD Eng and Prof. Katarzyna Zabielska-Adamska, the President of the Polish Committee on Geotechnics.

The delegates from the Warsaw University of Technology gave two presentations. The first presentation, entitled “Comprehensive Recognition of Soil and Water Conditions in the Area of Critical Infrastructure – Case Study”, was presented by Paweł Popielski and Łukasz Kaczmarek. The second presentation, by Agnieszka Dąbska, was titled “Geotechnical Properties of Combustion Waste and its Suitability for Embankment Constructions”. Both papers have been published in the manuscript “Smart Geotechnics for Smart Societies. Proceedings of the 17th Asian Regional Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering” (red.) Zhussupbenkov Askar, Sarsembayeva Assel, Kaliakin Victor N. Agnieszka Dąbska and Bartosz Bednarz participated in the International Geotechnical Engineering Workshop following the 17ARC. The workshop was held in Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan on 19-21 August 2023.

On August 22, 2023, they also visited the Kyrgyz Civil Engineering Institute named after N. Isanov (https://kstu.kg/en/bokovoe-menju/faculties/kyrgyz-civil-engineering-institute-named-after-n-isanov).
