Environmental Engineering
Environmental Engineering is a field of study focused on addressing major civilizational challenges such as climate threats, sustainable resource management (including energy and water), depletion of non-renewable resources, and the reduction of environmental pollution. These challenges arise from a rapidly changing world and require innovative engineering solutions.
Examples include technologies supporting the development of sustainable cities, enhancing their resilience to crises and threats (smart cities, urban resilience), and ensuring the proper functionality of buildings and network infrastructure (smart buildings and smart grids).
The study programme enables students to acquire specialist skills in:
- design and implementation of building installations (HVAC systems),
- design, construction, and management of fluid networks (district heating, gas, water supply, and sewage systems),
- water engineering,
- circular economy,
- technologies used in environmental engineering,
- energy transition.
Professional Licenses in Construction
Just as medical graduates must pass a licensing exam to become doctors, engineers must obtain professional construction licenses in order to perform independent technical functions in the construction sector.
The Faculty of Environmental Engineering, as one of the few faculties at Warsaw University of Technology, provides graduates of Environmental Engineering with the opportunity to pursue professional licenses in the following specializations: installation engineering, hydrotechnical engineering, and structural engineering. After completing first-cycle (Bachelor’s/Engineer) studies, some licenses are available in a limited scope—full qualifications can be obtained after completing second-cycle (Master’s) studies.
What After Graduation?
You can successfully work in both national and international companies and institutions responsible for shaping the built environment. Career opportunities include positions with critical infrastructure operators, leading companies in environmental technologies and sustainable economy, as well as in consulting and auditing.
Thanks to the possibility of obtaining professional licenses for independent technical roles in construction, you will also be an attractive candidate for design and engineering firms.
